PARTNER

Paul Buchanan

Paul Buchanan has more than twenty-six years of experience litigating employment cases and providing employment law services in Oregon, Washington and California.  He has litigated numerous employment cases through trial and obtained many jury verdicts for his clients.  Paul advises clients around the nation on Americans with Disability Act (“ADA”) compliance and other employment law issues. 

Paul was a partner at Stoel Rives for more than ten years and for more than five years he served as the Chair of Stoel Rives' multi-office Labor & Employment Group.  He also served as Stoel Rives’ in-house employment lawyer from 2000 to 2006.  From 1990 to 1993, Paul practiced in the labor, employment and litigation groups at Heller Ehrman in San Francisco, California.   

Paul is a national speaker and writer on employment law issues.  Since 2005, Paul has been a member of the National Employment Law Institute faculty where he has given numerous advanced-level presentations for employment lawyers and human resource professionals throughout the country, including a yearly two-day conference on ADA and FMLA in San Francisco, Chicago and Washington D.C.  Paul has given presentations in national conferences for the American Bar Association, and has been interviewed on employment law issues for multiple media outlets, including the BBC.   His writings and commentary on employment law issues have been published by the American Bar Association, American Lawyer Media, Bloomberg BNA, the Washington State Bar Journal, The Oregonian, and other publications.

Courtney Angeli

Courtney Angeli is one of the leading employment lawyers in the state of Oregon.  Before co-founding the firm, she was a partner at Stoel Rives LLP. She has extensive experience litigating employment cases and providing comprehensive employment law counseling and training to employers. She is past president of the Oregon Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.  Courtney is a regular speaker and writer on employment law issues, and has made numerous joint presentations with federal judges for the Federal Bar Association.  She is regularly quoted in the press for her opinion on employment law matters. She has extensive experience litigating employment cases through trial, having obtained favorable jury verdicts for her clients in both state and federal courts. She represents individuals in high profile and compelling cases.  She has beenrated as one the top fifty lawyers in Oregon, and one of the top twenty-five women lawyers in Oregon in Super Lawyers,  as well as one of the top employment lawyers in the state by that same publication. She is listed in Best Lawyers in America and is also highly rated by Chambers and Partners, which has noted her reputation as a "highly ethical" employment lawyer and "clever strategist" and praised her "amazing ability to size up a situation and decide on the appropriate response." She has also received the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI).

Andrew Altschul

Andrew Altschul practiced labor and employment law at two of the country's largest law firms for almost a decade before opening his own employment law boutique in 2004. Andrew has substantial experience representing both employers and employees in all aspects of employment disputes. He provides day-to-day counseling on employment issues, collective bargaining representation, and serves as a mediator on labor and employment matters. Andrew also hasa national ERISA benefit litigation practice and regularly litigates ERISA actions throughout the country.  Andrewis recognized in The Best Lawyers of AmericaOregon Super Lawyers and Rising Stars, and selected as a leader in his field for Oregon by Chambers USA. He served as the Chair of the Oregon State Bar Board of Bar Examiners, which is responsible for designing and grading the Oregon Bar Examination and has received Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI).  Andrew is also a frequent speaker at national and local employment law forums.  Andrew is a member of the Oregon, Washington and California bars. He received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and his bachelor’s degree from Grinnell College.

Dana Sullivan

Dana L. Sullivan has developed an excellent reputation representing individuals in employment and civil rights litigation.  She regularly tries discrimination cases in both federal and state court and also devotes a significant part of her practice to advising executives in the negotiation of employment contracts or separation agreements.  Dana has been selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers has listed her among the top 25 women lawyers in Oregon and among Oregon’s top 50 lawyers.  Dana is a past president of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association and she currently serves on the Board of the Multnomah Bar Association. Dana earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Princeton University and went on to earn a law degree at New York University School of Law. Dana’s many volunteer activities include service on the Legal Committee of Legal Voice, a Seattle-based organization devoted to advancing the rights of women, and Dana also serves on the Board of Governors of Girls Inc. of Northwest Oregon. Dana is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education programs and has served as a guest lecturer for classes at Portland State University and Lewis & Clark Law School.  Recent topics include family leave and disability laws, sexual harassment claims, the basics of litigating an employment case, proving damages, and issues surrounding expert witness testimony.
